Over the past 48 hours SONOS has featured in the news and on the radio. We wanted to clarify some points for customers with Sonos products.
Many will have received an email from Sonos on Tuesday. This email was not well written, in our opinion, and there seems to be a fair amount of confusion about what is and is not happening.
First thing to say – any existing Sonos products will continue to work (as it does today) for the foreseeable future.
Sonos is a very progressive company looking to “reinvent home audio for today and tomorrow” (in their own words). New and emerging tech will always be introduced as it naturally develops. It would be perfectly standard to expect new hardware, new features and upgraded methods to control.
Some older Sonos products have reached the limit of their memory and processing power, and will be unable to run these changes. These are known as legacy products and were launched between 2005-2011. If you are a Sonos owner and received an email from them on Tuesday, the email lists the legacy products in your system.
These legacy products will not stop working in May 2020. The legacy products and the systems they work within, will continue to work in the way they do now for the future.
Should you wish to explore the upgrade path for legacy products, we give you a 30% discount off the new product price. Many James-Morrow customers have taken advantage of this offer since we introduced it in November 2019. Should you wish to explore the features of the new products, we have them in store on demonstration.
Should you wish to leave your system as it, do exactly that and continue to enjoy the system.
The team at James-Morrow is here to help with any questions. Anything you wish to discuss, please call 0131 229 877 or pop into the store.
