KEF LS LUXE: When a Speaker Becomes a Sculpture

KEF has never been shy about treating loudspeakers as design objects, but the new LS LUXE takes that philosophy further than almost anything the British brand has released. Unveiled this summer and priced at £3,499 for the pair, LS LUXE is a wireless hi-fi system built to sit between the compact LS50 Wireless II and the floorstanding LS60 Wireless — bringing more scale and bass than the former, without the footprint of the latter.

A Sculptor's Take on Hi-Fi

The most striking thing about LS LUXE isn't a spec sheet number — it's the shape. This is the first wireless speaker designed by industrial designer Ross Lovegrove, whose earlier work with KEF includes the towering, ultra-limited Muon sculpture. Lovegrove's fingerprints are all over the cabinet, which trades the usual rectangular box for a sculpted, organic form available in Eclipse Black, Dusk Titanium, and Mineral White finishes. KEF is positioning LS LUXE as much as a piece of furniture-grade art as a piece of audio equipment — something meant to hold its own in a room even when the music isn't playing.

What's Actually Driving the Sound

Underneath the design flourish sits a genuinely new technical package. At the heart of each speaker is a 6.5-inch, 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array with Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT), paired with a debut technology KEF calls Velocity Control Technology, or VECO. VECO uses a closed-loop system with a velocity sensor that monitors the driver in real time, feeding that data to a custom amplifier that corrects movement inconsistencies on the fly — the idea being tighter, more accurate bass and less distortion at higher volumes.

Each speaker packs a hybrid amplifier setup: 280 watts of Class D power for the low-frequency driver and 100 watts of Class A/B for the high-frequency driver, for 380 watts total per speaker. All of it is tied together by KEF's Music Integrity Engine, the brand's proprietary DSP that tunes the amplification and drivers to work as a matched system rather than a stack of separate components.

Built for a Modern Setup

LS LUXE runs on KEF's W2 Wireless Platform, supporting lossless audio up to 24-bit/384kHz along with AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Bluetooth 5.0, and direct access to services like Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music, and Deezer through their native apps. For home theater duty, HDMI eARC lets it double as a serious soundbar replacement, and there's a subwoofer output on each speaker if you want to expand the system later. Everything — from initial setup to detailed room EQ — is handled through the KEF Connect app, and an aluminum C3 remote is included in the box.
